Why to Invest in North Devon
North Devon, a designated area of outstanding beauty, is home to a dizzying array of picture perfect beaches and villages and is based just a mere three and a half hours from London, four and a half hours from Manchester and under three hours from Oxford. So on a Friday evening, you could be sipping a glass of bubbly in North Devon by 9pm, with the whole weekend stretching ahead of you.

Let’s talk beaches and sea views….Woolacombe beach has been named as one of Tripadvisor’s ‘Top 10 beaches in the UK’. The beautiful beach at Woolacombe has a 3 mile stretch and was also awarded an ‘England for Excellence Gold Award’ for best family resort, and has been voted the best British beach in the Mail on Sunday.
Croyde Bay is one of Devon’s most famous surfing destinations and attracts holiday makers in their thousands each Summer. Westward Ho! Based near Bideford offers a clean, blue-flag sandy beach which stretches for two miles and is known as the Golden Bay. With strong surfing conditions and the famous Pebble Ridge, buying a holiday home here is well worth considering.
The Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe are unlike many of the golden sand beaches on this list and their beauty comes from the sheer complexity and scale of its many rugged rock formations. Ilfracombe’s reputation as the culinary and cultural hub of North Devon has been steadily growing for the past few years and the seaside town is home is renowned artist Damien Hirst’s famous 20m high sculpture. The three-mile expanse of Saunton Sands is ideal for family activities or dog walking while just behind the beach lies Braunton Burrows, the largest sand dune system in England.
Other pretty coastal locations include the pretty harbourside village of Appledore, Instow is a firm favourite with families being based on the North Devon bike trail and has a wide golden beach at high tide. Clovelly is a working fishing village based on a 400 foot cliff with steep cobbled streets.
Then there is Lynton and Lynmouth. The East and West Lyn Rivers converge at Lynmouth known as ‘Little Switzerland and it sits at the bottom of a deep gorge and is home to an intriguing water powered cliff railway that will take you up the cliff to Lynton.
North Devon holiday homes can really benefit by offering dog-friendly accommodation and having a hot tub which will really boost booking numbers and extend the season. Wi-Fi is very much a set standard and Devon County Council has been working on a number of infrastructure projects over the last few years to provide superfast broadband and improved mobile phone coverage.
